The Visit/5:
Pablo mentioned his mother's Sephardic roots. Lawrence looked up from reading. The remark triggered Lawrence's memory of his Sephardic Caribbean aunt, the telephone operator. She would call him as a child in New York in the lilting accent of the islands and urge him to be a good boy. With all this talk of the tropics, our café soiree ended with the hopes of continuing this cultural exchange in Cuba. But will the US State department lift the Cuba travel ban in our lifetimes?
